Resumen_ingles
Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes two different syndromes: primary infection, manifested as varicella, and subsequent reactivation in spinal sensory ganglia of latent VZV, manifested as herpes zoster (HZ).
Even though HZ in children is considered rare and generally mild, the incidence increases in immunocompromised children and in those who have had chickenpox during the first year of life. Besides, immunocompromised children can suffer severe local dermatomal infection and disseminated HZ. We describe the clinical course of an immunocompetent 9-year-old girl who presented severe local typical rash of HZ involving three adjacent dermatomes and cutaneous dissemination. The patient did not have history of having had varicella but she had household exposure to varicella during the neonatal period. - Palabras_clave_ingles Varicella zoster virus disseminated herpes zoster
