Resumen_ingles
The objective of the study is to verify the suitability of plant-based beverages (PBV) in the nutritional management of inborn errors of protein intermediary metabolism (IEMP). For this reason, the composition of 172 BV marketed in Spain (54 of soybeans, 24 of rice, 22 of almonds, 31 of oats, 6 of coconut, 8 tiger nut milk, 12 other types and 15 mixed) is reviewed. The PBV are not useful as hypoproteic foods in the nutritional treatment of the IEMP despite their low protein content due to their high content of free sugars, insufficient amount of lipids and essential fatty acids and not being supplemented in minerals and vitamins. A reasonable alternative are food modules with a greater amount of lipids (adequate amounts of linoleic, linolenic, docosahexaenoic and arachidonic acids), a sufficient amount of carbohydrates (but with a low content of free sugars), as well as fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins and minerals.
